Following a summit meeting between the leaders of the two countries in late October 2018, Japan and India have agreed to initiate a Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) program beginning in early 2019. The pilot program, which will target only certain fields of inventions, will allow Japanese applicants to request expedited examinations through the Indian Patent Office, and vice-versa.
