[December 2016] New IoT Patent Classification System

The Japan Patent Office and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) have announced the creation of a new patent classification for Internet of Things (IoT)-based technologies. The new patent classification – ZIT – is the first of its kind, and will allow IP practitioners to easily search and analyze IoT inventions on J-PlatPat, the JPO’s patent search website.
The JPO hopes that other patent offices will adopt this classification, which is now searchable on the J-PlatPat platform. For more information on the new patent classification, please visit the METI homepage at the link below.
